Copyright & DMCA Policy

How copyright works on an encrypted messenger
Nyktos is end-to-end encrypted: we cannot see message text or file contents in transit. But some things are visible to us and actionable — file uploads sitting in our storage, public-facing profile content (avatars, bios, usernames), and group names. This policy covers what we can act on.
Filing a takedown notice
If you believe content on Nyktos infringes your copyright, email [email protected] with:
- Your name and contact info
- What work is infringed (title, link, or description)
- Where it is on Nyktos (username, group name, or file link — as specific as you can get)
- A statement that you believe in good faith the use isn't authorized
- A statement, under penalty of perjury, that you're the rights holder or authorized to act for them
- Your physical or electronic signature
We'll review and remove or disable access to infringing material we can actually reach — stored files, profile content, group names. We can't decrypt or delete the contents of E2EE messages, but we can remove the accounts distributing them.
Counter-notices
If your content was removed and you believe it was a mistake, reply to our notice with your contact info, what was removed, why you believe it wasn't infringing, and your consent to the jurisdiction in section 8 of our Terms. We'll restore content we removed in error unless the complainant files court action promptly.
Repeat infringers
Accounts that repeatedly share infringing material get terminated. Three valid takedowns against one account is a ban — no appeals process beyond the counter-notice above.
Abuse of this process
False takedown notices are illegal in many places. Don't file one to harass someone or censor something you just don't like.
